Collaborative Storytelling

We work together in many ways every day. Join us at the Arts Center to work as a group of artists to create your own story through team building, music, theatre, and art.

Fine Arts Standards:

  • MUS.1.2RE Describe how music communicates feelings, moods, images and meaning
  • VA.1.1PR Demonstrate beginning skill and craftsmanship in the use of art materials and tools
  • VA.1.6PR Engage in artmaking to produce a work that combines music, movement or dramatic play with visual art.

English Language Arts Standards:

  • ELA.RL.1.7 Use illustrations and details in a story to describe its characters, setting, or events.
  • ELA.SL.1.1 Participate in collaborative conversations about grade 1 topics and texts with diverse partners in small and larger groups.

Social and Emotional Learning Standards:

  • SEL.E1. 2.a Identify strategies to solve a problem

Arts Center Adventure

August-June

From its detailed Norman-style architecture to its 1940s interior renovations, collections of artworks, its enormous Aeolian organ, and hundred-year-old history, the Greenacres Arts Center and its nearby farm and woodland has many stories to tell. Come to explore the hidden treasures of the Arts Center!

Fine Arts Standards:

  • VA.1.3PE Examine one or more cultural and historical artworks and respond to the visual, expressive features in the work.
  • MU.1.7RE Discuss audience behavior appropriate for the context and style of music performed.

Ohio Social Studies Standards:

  • SS.1.5 Places are distinctive because of their physical characteristics (landforms and bodies of water) and human characteristics (structures built by people).

Social and Emotional Learning Standards:

Exploring the Senses

August-June

Have you ever considered how a color could smell? Or how a sound could move around? At the Arts Center, we are ready to explore the connections between our five senses, the artmaking process, and how one person changed the meaning of “art.”

Fine Arts Standards:

  • VA.1.6PR Engage in artmaking to produce a work that combines music, movement or dramatic play with visual art.
  • MU.1.2RE Discuss how music communicates feelings, moods, images and meaning.
  • TH.1.6PR Work cooperatively to present a tableau, improvisation or pantomime.

English Language Arts:

  • ELA.SL.1.5 Add drawings or other visual displays to descriptions when appropriate to clarify ideas, thoughts, and feelings.

Fairy Tales, Folklore, and Legends

August-June

Embark on an adventure at Greenacres Arts Center as we explore different fairy tales, folklore, and legends. This program explores the concepts of artistically telling and retelling a story through dramatic play and use of imagination. With each season change, there are new stories to be told through the halls and grounds of the Arts Center!

Fine Arts Standards:

  • VA.2PR Generate ideas and images for artwork based on observation, memory, imagination and experience.
  • TH.K.1PR Imitate movements, voices and feelings of people, animals and objects through dramatic play.
  • MUS.K.4RE Identify and connect a concept shared between music and another curricular subject.

  • ELA.RL.K.3 With prompting and support, identify characters, settings, and major events in a story.
  • ELA.RI.K.2 With prompting and support, identify the main topic and retell key details of a text.

Social and Emotional Learning Standards:

  • SEL.B2. 4.a Discuss obstacles that can get in the way of reaching a goal and ideas for handling those obstacles
