I Spy Shapes!

August-June

The Greenacres Arts Center is home to beautiful works of art, instruments, and cleverly designed shapes built into our architecture. We will investigate the shapes around us to inspire art marking and musical exploration.

Fine Arts Standards:

  • MUS.K.1CE Identify the same and different (e.g., fast/slow, loud/soft, high/low and long/short).
  • MUS.K.5CE Explore a variety of classroom instruments. (e.g., metals, skins and woods.).
  • MUS.K.4RE Identify and connect a concept shared between music and another curricular subject
  • V.A.K.7PE Explore their environments and experiences for artmaking ideas.

Ohio Math Standards:

  • K.G.4 Describe and compare two- or three-dimensional shapes, in different sizes and orientations, using informal language to describe their commonalities, differences, parts, and other attributes.

Ohio Science Standards:

  • K.PS.1: Objects and materials can be sorted and described by their properties.

Seasonal Inspirations (Summer/Autumn/Winter/Spring)

August-June

Every season brings a different experience at Greenacres–inside and outside! Use observable seasonal changes to express yourself and your experiences through the Arts.

Fine Arts Standards:

  • VA.K.7PE Explore their environments and experiences for artmaking ideas.
  • MUS.K.4RE Identify and connect a concept shared between music and another curricular subject.

Ohio Science Standards:

  • K.PS.1: Objects and materials can be sorted and described by their properties.
  • NGSS: K-ESS2-1 Earth’s Systems: Use and share observations of local weather conditions to describe patterns over time.

Ohio Social Studies Standards:

  • K.HISTORY.3. Heritage is reflected through the arts, customs, traditions, family celebrations and language.

Social and Emotional Learning Standards:

  • SEL.E4. 3.a Identify examples of transitions and how they are a necessary and appropriate part of school and life.
