Equine Center

Overview

The Greenacres Equine Center offers dynamic field trips for 6th–8th grade students, integrating math and science standards through hands-on horse interactions and environmental education. These immersive experiences spark creativity, critical thinking, and a deeper understanding of ecology and sustainability. Beyond field trips, children ages 8–18 can learn to ride and care for horses in a welcoming setting—without the financial pressures of horse ownership. As an official United States Pony Club Riding Center, we focus on building confident riders and a complete understanding of horsemanship through both mounted and unmounted education.

Summer Camps

Greenacres Equine Center summer camps invite 5 to 15-year-olds to explore and learn in nature. Campers engage in fun, hands-on learning with our horses, while exploring horsemanship and horse care, in our beautiful equestrian center. These camps are designed to ignite young imaginations while ensuring a summer filled with adventure and creativity.

After School Lessons

The Greenacres Equine Center offers a well-rounded riding program with both mounted and unmounted lessons, currently available to active students only. Mounted lessons focus on developing a balanced riding position and skills for navigating arenas and natural landscapes, with evaluations and written tests on safety, horse behavior, and tack knowledge. Unmounted lessons are classroom-based and customized, covering topics like horse anatomy, colors and breeds, braiding for shows, and tack maintenance. Together, these lessons ensure students build a strong foundation in riding and horsemanship at their own pace.

First Responder Training

Teaching first responders how to deal with fires and other emergencies in the stable. In emergency situations, experience and comfort level with animals can mean the difference between saving the animals or not. This program will acclimate emergency workers to horses by teaching them about a horse’s natural instincts, behavior, and proper handling techniques. Staff solicits emergency workers suggestions on how to make the stables safer and easier to protect.

FAQ

What is the cost for my school to come on a field trip?

All Greenacres field trips are provided at no cost to the school. Many schools are also eligible to have the cost of busing reimbursed as well.

How is it possible to offer free field trips?

Louise and Louis Nippert’s generosity have provided us with the funding to operate Greenacres in the manner that they envisioned when they founded Greenacres.

Do field trips happen in the winter?

Yes! We offer field trips throughout the school year. Impactful experiences can occur in cold weather, and we tailor each experience for the comfort of our guests.

Can we come explore on our own?

No, Greenacres can only be visited when you are part of a field trip or public event. We are not a public park.

How many acres does Greenacres manage in Indian Hill?

The Indian Hill site is over 600 acres.

Can participants attend Exploring with Grace programs outside of school hours?

Yes! The Exploring with Grace Fund supports programming outside of typical school hours to increase accessibility. Evening and weekend visits can be scheduled based on availability.

Why does the forest here not look like other local woodlots?

We have worked hard to remove invasive species such as honeysuckle and multi-flora rose. These invasive plants are very common in Southern Ohio, and have changed the way forests look. Because invasives are so common, many people have forgotten what a forest “should” look like. Our forests are a work in progress, but the more open understory is the natural condition of temperate hardwood forests.

How can I get involved?

Greenacres has limited volunteer opportunities. See volunteer opportunities

Does Greenacres offer Summer Camps?

Yes! Day camps are offered in the summer for children ages 5 to 13.

What else does Greenacres do?

Greenacres Foundation has a diverse mission involving educating the public about Arts, Agriculture, and the Environment. We are a working farm, marketing our farm products in Indian Hill. We also present events such as concerts and art shows
