EOV is a type of pasture monitoring that looks at land as an ecosystem\, not just a place for production. This training will provide livestock producers and landowners with practical\, hands-on experience so they can implement these monitoring methods on their land to improve their management. \nEOV training is an annual event organized by Michigan State University\, typically held in Lake City\, MI. This year Greenacres Foundation is hosting the training. \nPre-work will be assigned and is mandatory to complete before the field session. \nYour registration includes light breakfast\, coffee\, and lunch. \nTopics Covered: \n\nNutrient and Mineral Cycling\nPlant Community Structure and Health\nSoil Physical Properties\nMicrofauna\n\nSpeakers Include: \nMatt Raven – Matt R. Raven is a Professor in the Department of Community Sustainability at Michigan State University. His research interests include diffusion and adoption of innovations in agriculture and community food systems; and the connection between healthy soils\, healthy food\, healthy people\, and healthy communities with an emphasis on the utilization of grazing livestock to improve our soils. Dr. Raven is a faculty coordinator of the Upper Peninsula Research and Extension Center (UPREC) located in Chatham\, Michigan with responsibilities in community food systems. He is a certified Master Field Professional as well as Ecological Outcomes Verification (EOV) Master Verifier by the Savory Institute. \nCrista Derry – Crista Derry is a research technician at Lake City Research Center in Dr. Jason Rowntree’s lab. She has been involved in EOV for 6 years and producer outreach. She grew up on a multispecies farm and is currently running a herd of 60 beef cows. \nMorgan MathisonSlee – Dr. Morgan MathisonSlee is a post-doctoral research associate with the Department of Community Sustainability at Michigan State University. She is currently working on research projects related to using Ecological Outcomes Verification as a tool for monitoring the health of pasture-based ecosystems and the relationships between ecological and social well-being. \nDue to limited capacity\, walk-ins will not be accepted.
