Through fun\, hands-on activities and exploration at Nippert Barn\, families will learn how understanding animal senses helps farmers provide thoughtful\, compassionate care. \nFamily Discovery Time is a child-focused educational program on a selected topic for children and their families. Literacy and hands-on experiences will be combined to cultivate curiosity and discovery on the farm. Please dress to be out on the farm in our pastures\, gardens\, and natural areas. We may encounter mud and evidence of our livestock. \nPlease note\, the activities are targeted for children ages 5 and up. This immersive experience will introduce participants to common invasive plant species found in local woodlands\, alongside key native plants that support a healthy ecosystem. \nAlong the trail\, participants will explore both invasive and native plant communities while visiting active ecological restoration sites. The team will also share practical management approaches used at Greenacres and discuss how these methods support long-term habitat health. \nBy the end of the hike\, participants will have a stronger ability to identify invasive plants on their own property\, a clearer understanding of control strategies\, and a deeper appreciation for the native species that sustain healthy woodlands. \nThis event is intended for guests ages 16+. \nTickets\n\n\n\n\n\nGeneral Admission: Free\nThe final day to purchase tickets is Friday\, August 28\, 2026 at 12:00 PM.\nTickets for teens (ages 16+) are only available for purchase with a participating adult\n\n\n\n\n\nTickets must be purchased in advance\, and due to limited capacity\, walk-ins will not be accepted. This program will explore how the winter season can inspire your artistic process and creativity. Dress for the weather\, because this program will occur indoors and outdoors on the Arts Center grounds. Tickets are available on a first come\, first serve basis. This program is from 10am-1pm at the Greenacres Arts Center. There will be time at the end of the program to enjoy a picnic-style lunch in the Greenacres Arts Center\, so please feel free to pack a lunch for your family. \nIn this program\, families will have the opportunity to: \n\n\n\nExplore the winter landscape of the Arts Center grounds\nParticipate in winter-inspired arts activities guided by the Greenacres Arts Team\nWork side-by-side as a family to explore and create\nHave a lunch in the fairy tale-like setting of the Arts Center\n\n\n\nGeneral Information\n\n\n\nEach person in attendance\, regardless of age\, will require a ticket. This is important for two reasons: 1) The reservation of tickets for each individual covers our liability waiver for each attendee. 2) These numbers help us track the full reach of arts programming.\nDoors open for check in at 9:30 AM. The programming begins promptly at 10:00 AM. Please give yourself a few extra minutes to arrive and check in at Greenacres.\nRegister in advance. Tickets are limited. Please be prepared for uneven terrain\, some short hikes\, and standing. Strollers are not recommended. Young children are welcome\, but please keep in mind this event occurs outdoors and away from our restroom facilities. This event will take place at the Greenacres Nippert Barn\, followed by small-group tours of our Temple Grandin-designed livestock handling facility. \nDr. Grandin will explore the key principles of humane livestock handling\, emphasizing the importance of calm\, low-stress interactions between animals and handlers. She’ll discuss how both thoughtful facility design and skilled stockmanship contribute to animal welfare and safer\, more efficient operations. Dr. Grandin’s talk will draw from decades of research and firsthand experience in improving livestock systems around the world. \nGuests will also hear brief remarks from Greenacres Director of Agriculture\, Michael Cox\, and President\, Meredith Leslie\, who will share how Dr. Grandin’s practices are applied in our day-to-day work. \nWhile not touring the facility\, guests will be able to browse stations highlighting Greenacres’ ongoing work in Livestock\, Agricultural Education\, and Research\, as well as shop at our Farm Market or explore Carter’s Classroom\, which will feature educational displays related to animal handling.  \nDr. Grandin’s books will be available for purchase at the event and can be bought after check-in to be signed during the book signing. Invasive plants can threaten biodiversity\, disrupt ecosystems\, and diminish the beauty of natural landscapes. Understanding how to properly manage these plants is a critical step in protecting the health of our local environment. This series will provide participants with knowledge and hands-on experience to identify\, control\, and restore areas affected by invasive species. Participants will gain valuable insights into the ecological impact of invasive species and learn how small\, consistent efforts can make a big difference in restoring native habitats. \nEach session will combine classroom learning with guided field hikes\, offering participants hands-on experience identifying\, controlling\, and restoring areas impacted by invasive species. Greenacres Land Management and Research staff\, along with the Trees & Trails Foundation\, will guide attendees through the process of invasive plant management\, providing practical tools and strategies to apply on their own properties. \nThis series is for adults aged 18 and older and will take place rain or shine. \nTime: 5:00 PM – 6:30 PM \nLocation: Spooky Hollow Farm – 8500 Spooky Hollow Rd\, Cincinnati\, OH 45242 \nCost: Tickets are $5 per session and include light snacks and refreshments. \nWhen purchasing tickets\, select a ticket for every session you would like to attend and then proceed to checkout. You must purchase a ticket for each session individually—buying a ticket for one session does not grant access to another session. \n\n\nWorkshop Sessions\nSession 1 – Invasive Plant Identification\nWednesday\, April 23\nLearn to identify common invasive plants found throughout Indian Hill and southwestern Ohio. This session will provide an overview of how Greenacres manages natural areas to promote plant and wildlife diversity\, with insights into the efforts of Trees & Trails within the community. A guided hike will give participants the chance to practice identification in the field. \nView Event \nSession 2 – Invasive Plant Control\nWednesday\, July 30\nDiscover integrated pest management strategies and the tools available for controlling invasive plants. This session will cover specific management techniques for the most common invasive plants in the area. Participants will review identification skills and observe areas where invasive plant control efforts have been implemented. \nView Event \nSession 3 – Monitoring and Restoration\nWednesday\, September 17\nExplore goal setting and monitoring techniques for restoration projects. Learn how to increase native plant diversity on your property and maintain restored areas. It’s a meaningful and delicious way to celebrate this special occasion.\n \nThis family-friendly event features hands-on activities\, guided hikes\, and a walk through the past: \n🌿 Guided Cemetery Hike \nTake part in a guided hike up the ridge to the historic Elliott Mill Cemetery\, departing every 30 minutes. Please note: this is a short but steep trail with uneven terrain and no stroller access. Participants should wear closed-toe shoes and be prepared for a physically challenging walk. Children must be accompanied by an adult.\n \n🧭 Passport Adventure: \nCollect stamps at various activity stations\, including:\n \n\n\n\n\n\nStream Exploration\nHistory of the Old Church\nVolunteers for Veggies Garden\nHistoric Barn Museum-style Display\nMaple Sugaring Information at the Sugar Shack\n\n\n\n\n\n🚌 Parking & Accessibility:\nAll guests will park at Old Church\, and a staff member will be present to direct parking. \nThe Old Church building itself is accessible.
